Meet Your Guide

Passion for Wildlife

Hi, my name is Jojo Kaul. My family moved to Livingston, Montana when my parents bought the Murray Hotel in 1991. Growing up outside Yellowstone, I fell in love with the Park’s wildlife as a kid.

I learned to scan hillsides for bear, elk and antelope from the backseat of the car on family trips. I developed a passion for wolves in fourth grade, when I wrote a book report on the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone. I talked to the park’s head biologist, Doug Smith, and wolf interpretive ranger Rick McIntyre. Rick would go on to show me my first Yellowstone wolf, Wolf 8.

As I got old enough to drive myself, I continued taking trips to the Park to look for wildlife, especially wolves. When out-of-town family came to visit, I became the de facto Yellowstone guide.

My passion for wildlife grew when I got a camera and a telephoto lens, as well as a spotting scope, which allowed me to spend time finding wolves and the other wildlife of Yellowstone.

Being able to watch Yellowstone’s wildlife up close with my spotting scope and camera was a game-changer, and I began spending most of my free time at the Park.

What sets me apart is my patience. I’m willing to wait hours for the right shot or to catch the right moment, no matter the time of year. I love to watch wolves play like puppies.

I know Yellowstone well, and I know where to look for wolves, bears, owls, foxes, moose, coyotes, otters, elk, bison, and other local wildlife. I have spent much of the last five years learning and growing in the Park, and am now offering my services as a guide to show you Yellowstone as I know it.
